Joe Berggren
Joe is a native of Prior Lake, MN and currently lives in the same city
that he grew up in. Joe’s golf course career started at the age of 16
working at Lone Pine Golf Course (now The Meadows at Mystic Lake).
During his college summers, he worked at The Wilds, The Pines at
Grandview Lodge in Nisswa, MN and Minnesota Valley Country Club in
Bloomington. Those years sparked his interest in the turf industry.
In 1999, Joe headed to New Brunswick, NJ to get his turf education at
Rutgers University. After completion of his courses, he was hired as
the Assistant Superintendent at Whistling Straits - The Irish Course in
Kohler, WI. There, he helped in the construction of the 4th
golf course owned by the Kohler Company.
(For those of you who don’t know, Whistling Straits is a high end public
golf course along the shore of Lake Michigan which mimics the look and
feel of Ireland or Scotland. Ask Joe about how they would let out 30
Scottish black faced sheep to wander the property to make it feel more
authentic.)
Joe then returned to MN and spent some time in the commercial end of the
turf industry. He worked for Pro Turf Landscaping Company in Lakeville
as their Residential Irrigation Service Manager. He also started up a
small Landscaping Business himself, building block walls, sprinkler
systems, paver patios and Landscaping.
Joe has since returned to the turf industry once again, and has been an
Assistant Superintendent at The Wilds in Prior Lake for the past two
years. He is married to wife Gina and has 2 sons, Braden, 9 and
Carter, 7.
“I am very excited for the opportunity to be the Superintendent at MNGC
and will to continue the standards that you have become accustomed to,
while dealing with the challenges that will certainly show themselves as
the year goes on.”
Charlie
DeNet
I was born and raised in St. Paul. Attended UW-Eau Claire and during
those college summers I worked on the grounds crew at Prestwick,
Valleywood and Willingers. After college I worked for 3 years as an
Assistant Pro at the Cannon Golf Club. The summer of 2001 I was
fortunate enough to get a job as an Assistant Pro at The Wilds Golf Club
in Prior Lake. I was responsible for running corporate golf events, golf
leagues and purchasing the merchandise for the golf shop. In 2009 I was
the Head Pro in charge of the daily operations for the golf course. I
also became more involved in individual and group lessons for corporate
clients as well teaching the kids in our junior golf camps. I currently
live in Farmington with my wife Erin and our 3 children. (Emily 11,
Charlie 8, Robby 3).
I look forward to meeting the members and creating an atmosphere at MNGC
that will make you proud to call this your home course.
